Royal Northern Sinfonia

The outstanding violinist Maria Włoszczowska, Artistic Partner of Royal Northern Sinfonia, directs the orchestra in an all-Schubert programme. His monumental Octet, large-scale chamber music that is almost orchestral in concept, was written in 1824 and is full of energy and Schubert’s inimitable lyricism. His Symphony No.5, an earlier work from 1816, shows the influence of Mozart in its lightness and youthful spirit, the two works together forming a lovely pairing for this afternoon concert.
