All cultures have their own poets and poetry. Poetry is a way of communicating ideas, images and feelings. Through poetry we can explore beauty, express a truth or describe an event. Poems use language to challenge, delight and entertain. Poetry can also create a sense of community.
Come along for an evening of poetry and chat. Read your own work, share your favourite poem by your favourite poet or simply come and listen.
Tea, coffee (and the occasional snack) provided or bring your own bottle and/or nibbles.

Wooler Water at the Poetry Cafe
Glendale Ceilidh Band is planning an evening of entertainment which will feature the work of local musician and violin player, Kate Bagenal-Lowe. Kate has written a beautiful suite of folk tunes which she dedicated to the band on its first birthday in December 2022. Her work is entitled 'Wooler Water' and is inspired by the rivers and beautiful countryside around Wooler. Kate's musical journey traces the river's course, beginning in the upper reaches of the Harthope Valley, winding through Happy Valley and Coldgate Mill, and culminating in the lovely Wooler Water as it joins the River Till on the Milfield Plain.
Glendale Ceilidh Band will host an evening of local, Northumbrian folk music, poetry and song to premiere and celebrate Kate’s work on Saturday March 2nd 2024. In the spirit of fostering and encouraging creativity, we invite local writers to contribute to this evening by crafting poems and prose inspired, as Kate has been, by the beautiful countryside that surrounds us. To facilitate this, Wooler Arts, in association with the Poetry Café, is delighted to offer a complimentary writing workshop on Friday, January 5th, from 7 PM to 9 PM, led by our very own creative writing teacher, Dr Louise Tucker. Join us on January 5th, to nurture your ideas over a cup of tea or coffee, or feel free to bring your own drink. We look forward to your contributions!

We share a love of poetry and we want everyone to have their turn. We don’t judge; we don’t criticize; we simply enjoy sharing words . The evening starts at 7pm. Those who want to read to others are given a number at the door. All numbers go into the “hat” and are drawn out at random. If it is your number, it is your turn.
Come along and share your words with us.
